So recently I’ve been watching a lot of Korean films and especially dir. Kwak Jae-young’s. This has nothing to do both my Korean pop music obsession. I just love good movies. I watched his My Sassy Girl, Windstruck and The Classic and I really had no idea it was directed and written by him. I wouldn’t want to spoil the plot in case you plan to watch any of it, but I notice interesting styles of his screenplays and directions.
In all this three movie of his, the biggest and most obvious style is his plot twists. You can’t miss that! i don’t want to go too specific because it might be a big spoiler for some. The only thing I can say is; watch My Sassy Girl first before watching Windstruck. By the way, just so you know, My Sassy Girl receives great ratings and recognition and the film’s license was being bought to be made into a remake. But of course, it can’t beat the original. Moving on, just don’t watch Windstruck before My Sassy Girl. You’ll definitely notice a lot of things between the two films and his plot twist similarities. In the Classic as well. It’s a great movie that slowly burns your heart. Sometimes, a simple phrase strikes through your heart. Trust me, they are all worth your 2 hours.
To me,it looks like Kwak really loves making meaningful films that the audience can elate. Another good film of his that I’ve watched was The Sad Movie. It’s pretty good as we’ll but it doesn’t really have a solid story. However, this piece of art lives to its name. It is indeed sad. at first I thought… “Meh”…. But I was wrong. If you watch it you’ll know what it is when I say “that kid!!!”
I hope he writes more great movies!
