It may come to a shock to you if I tell you that my favourite movie genres is Horror. I’m not a sadist, but I just really love watching horror films. It gives you that adrenaline rush when you know something is about to jump. Well, I do love watching comedies, actions and all sort of stuff too. It’s just that they hardly brings out emotions to the audiences. Laughter is an emotion, I know, but we all have crazy friends. Actions? I love them too, but it’s a little bit too mainstream isn’t it? No really, I love them! It’s just that I want to feel more sometimes. Ermm, most people just go for the graphics, really. At least most of my friends do. My brain is always thinking; how the f**k did they do that?! When I ask my friends how do you like the movie The Dark Knight? Most of them hated it. Why? Not enough visual special effects. WHAT?! It’s a frigging Nolan’s film. U NO LIKE BALE AND LEDGER’S PERFORMANCE? ‘MWO’?!! (that’s ‘What?!’ in Korean). The Man of Steel as well. Many just want to see how Superman beats the hell out of criminals easily but little do most people know is that Superman always holds back. He knows he lives in a world of cardboard but he choses to stay low.
I love all genres of films and I find them all really amazing, but sometimes I would rather go for genres that triggers my emotions. Recently, I developed a huge interest in sad dramas too! Especially if they make me cry. BOYS DO CRY, just so you know. It all started from watching Korean dramas. Thanks to my boredom during the breaks, I start watching them, else my reluctance will just make me stay there. Trust me, they make it better than any other. I felt that a lot of Hollywood sad films are made for women to watch. Especially the sad romance ones. Most guys will probably be like: NO. Of course there are some really bloody good ones like James Cameron’s Titanic, Passion of Christ, Hachi: A Dog’s Tale, and so on.
Try and go for a change a little maybe, just give it a go for some Korean dramas or movies. There are the good and the bads too, look for the high rating ones before purchasing them. Movies that I would recommend are A Moment to Remember and Hello Ghost and dramas are Stairways to Heaven, 49 Days and also I’m Sorry, I Love You. A Moment to Remember is one of my favourites! It’s about how Alzheimer’s Disease can destroys one’s happiness. Highly recommended. It’s in almost every list of best sad Korean movies. Remember to get the ones with English subtitles. I’m not Korean and I can’t understand as well. I just want to explore. But if you do have any really good sad movies, regardless of culture or language, let me know too! American, British, Australian, Thai, Korean, Japanese… I don’t care. I’ll watch if it’s good! Speaking of which, One Litre of Tears, a Japanese drama about a 15 year old girl who has this rare disease called spinocerebellar degeneration with only 11 episodes. It made me cried one litre of tears 😐 The whole drama is based on her diary she wrote that was published shortly after her death. This 11 episodes of drama will make you cherish life to your max. It developed hatred in me towards people who complain about life. I’m just saying…
