Design Fiction

Apparently I’m two weeks slow in updating my posts about the readings. Here’s what I remember from reading it as this week’s reading is basically a comparison between design fiction and science fiction.

What is Design Fiction?

“It’s the deliberate use of diegetic prototypes to suspend disbelief about change”

That’s actually very interesting though. The first thing that pops into my head is on old 80s or 90s movies where you see interesting uninvented technologies being used such as touch screens. Now, it has already become a reality. Look at all the smartphones we are all using now. Back then.. THERE WERE BUTTONS! I used to use a Nokia N95. It was a very good phone in that time. Everyone owns a different phone and each and every one of them has its own design and functions.

In the video, Corning – Made of Glass, I feel that there are possibilities that it can happen. Question is; when? Well I thought that technology advancement is always improving itself, I wouldn’t be that long… hopefully. The human mind can create many interesting things. There’s always a way.

Ironman is a comic book superhero that can fly and shoot laser beams. Let’s not think about being superheroes or anything but the idea of making that armor. The Japanese has already invented an armor to protect themselves from the radiation in working at the damaged nuclear plant in 2012. We’re getting somewhere.

Think about the movies we see in the cinema. Maybe James Cameron’s Avatar? Who knows one day, those equipments may come to live?
