After Samantha’s hard work, the rough cut is finished before Tuesday’s presentation. After I looked at it, I am very satisfied with out work this time.
Comparing to the last project, the quality of the film has improved, the acting skill of our actors are better than last time, the music and the transitions in the film are very very nice. Samantha mixed six pieces of music together to fit into the tempo of the film and it worked very well! The smoke machine really helped developing the creepy atmosphere and the white LED panels we used did a very nice lighting! The fake lightning worked very nice and the lenses all worked very well!
The only part I don’t like in the film is the part of the mother waving her hand to the lens, it looked cliche even after the editing and that is also the part that made me think the acting skill looks bad. The other thing is we didn’t shoot the film in a high frame rate, so when we slow down some of the footage, all the frames starts to show and it looks quite bad. So I will look out for that in the future.
In this project, we have definitely prepared very well and prevented a lot of accidents! The only few problems we had was finding the actors, broken lights from RMIT and the low frame rate. So in the future we will have to start finding actors as early as possible, always check the equipment when I take it from the AV loans and also shoot with a higher frame rate.
I have learned a lot about film making in this semester, I have also gained a lot of experience in working as a team. All the lighting settings and the accidents during the shootings all helped me to become a better media practitioner. In the future, I will keep making more abstract works and improve myself! Really looking forward to the next semester!
