After some consideration I decided to work as a group again. Last week I thought about doing this project alone and produce a film totally by myself, but I think I will have more chances of working alone in other studios in the future and teamwork is one of the key learning outcomes of this studio, I decided to team up with Samantha and Zhen for this project and do another abstract film with narrative.
In the last project I think we used the fake blood really well and made a successful car crash scene in the film. So this time we decided to make another film related to killing and mental issues. Our first idea is to make a film inspired by “Disturb” by Brad Boeson.
It is a short story of a daughter killing her parents but she doesn’t know she was the killer. Because last time James said our film was still too easy to understand and didn’t leave enough space for audience to use their imagination, and WE THOUGHT IT WAS VERY HARD TO UNDERSTAND ALREADY. So this time we decided to try another film in this style and make it MORE CONFUSING.
This film is also mixing up the reality and dream, what we want to achieve is to use the scene of the daughter waking up to mess up the storyline and the boundary between reality and dream. So the audience will find it hard to identify which parts are real and which parts are from the dream. This time we have also added many conversations, because in the last project we had 0. This also caused us to make a lot of changes to the script over and over again.
Because of the more complicated script, we decided to use professional actors this time, because last time the car crash really looks awkward before editing. So in the pre-production, our job distribution is Samantha taking care of the script and arrangements, Zhen go look for the actors and I will find all the equipment we need.
This time, I hope we can be even more prepared than last time and make sure everything doesn’t go wrong! This is basically my goal for every assignment but things just always go wrong 😉
