Portrait has always been my weak spot. During my 7 years of photography experience, portrait is probably my least favorite genre because I found it hard to relate portrait to my abstract photos. Finding a model is also an exhausting process, so I consider my portrait shooting skill low because of the lack of practice. So this video is relatively trickier than the other three.

Before the shooting, I have absolutely no inspiration in my head, so I decided to take a look on YouTube and see if I can find any inspiration from others’ work. Vogue’s work caught my attention, the way they used videos to record the process of a photo shoot is very interesting. I love how the photographer focuses on the details and used close-up shots. So I decided to do a video that mostly focuses on details. I love to use shallow depth of field and change the focus during the filming process. I think the way the clear parts of the image changes looks very elegant and satisfying. So I used a lot of this technique and focused on the details to finish this video.

I am pleased with the result, because it visually looks good, and it is also my first portrait video. However, I think it is lacking a soul. I wasn’t able to show the theme of this video or the characteristic of the model. The video looks like a combination of different shots and it is hard to find a story or purpose inside the video. I will have to improve on this for my future videos by adding more content and have a more detailed plan before the shooting, better think of a name for the video before I start shooting. This will help me develop a clear topic and purpose for the video.
