Today is the final shooting day, so we need to finish everything up!
This shooting will be more focused on the daughter, how she’s having those nightmares that she thought was a dream but were actually real. We will also shoot the part of her pushing her brother down the stairs. Today is also the only day that all of the things we borrowed from RMIT are not broken!
In today’s shooting, the biggest problem we had was the lightning, because everybody needs to be highly focused and organized to create a perfect footage. I was use the light torch to create the first two lightnings, Zhen will use the LED panel to do the third lightning after me, Samantha will be filming, our actor Joey will control the other LED panel and the house owner Kimi will be holding the reflective board. For such a big group of people, collaboration is key. We spent a long time experimenting and making sure all of us are on the same page. After a lot of tries, the final result is satisfying. I think we achieve the best effect out of our limited resources and got a pretty real lightning effect.
The smoking machine also helped a lot today. The fog not only helped us to soften the light, but also helped us to make the background look more layered. For example for the part of the brother getting pushed. The background looks a lot better because we had the fog all over the place. It can raise the atmosphere and also create a good visual effect.
After three days of shooting, I think we are definitely more prepared than last time, we didn’t forget to bring anything, everybody was on time and efficient. I’m very proud we managed to finish the shooting in three days, especially when we are not in our best condition. (Me having a fever, Samantha was absent for one day and two of the actors are recruited one day before the shooting) Overall I’m very happy with our effort and the result. All the collaboration we did in this semester really helped me gain a lot of knowledge on film-making. I didn’t have such chances to film in a group during the last three semesters, so I am happy I chose this studio. The only problem I would like to improve next time is to find the actors in a more effective way, and start earlier.
Because of my fever, I couldn’t participate as much today, but after I looked at all the footage we got, I am very confident that the final film will look very good and remain a high quality.
