Today we are shooting the scenes of our female character walking around in the city to relieve herself and also think about her boyfriend who just died.

The locations of today’s shooting are Melbourne Central, Yarra River and inside a train. The first scene we shot was on Latrobe Street, our actress will be walking in the crowd, and Samantha will be shooting from the tram station. Because of the long distance and busy traffic, it was very hard to get a good look. To communicate well I was with the actress on the street to tell her start walking when Samantha gives me the signal on the phone. It was very repeating because it was so hard to get a nice shot. The speed, timing and traffic all needs to be perfect. At the end we did get a nice look, but because she was walking in the crowd, it was a little difficult to see where she is, which might confuse our audience. So we are not sure if we should include this in the final film.

When we got to Yarra River, the sun was starting to go down. So we are very lucky to have a sun set in the background. For this scene we changed the white balance to white fluorescent to make the color colder to show the sadness she was feeling. This bit was easy to shoot and thanks to our actress, the facial expression looks very good.

The last part is on the train; we were very worried about this part because it will be really hard to do the shooting when the train is too crowded. Especially it was around 6 PM at Flinder Street Station. Luckily the train we got on was very empty, so we have a lot of free space to shoot. The lighting in the train was on point, we didn’t even need any extra light, and the reflection on the windows also works very well.

This shooting has also been quite good, except the first part we did at Melbourne Central. Everything was quite smooth and efficient. We have now shot 50% of the film now, we managed to get some good looking shots and we are also getting more familiar with this mode of working as a group. I got better at using the lighting equipments and collaborating with others. I am very excited with the final film of ours.
