Because of the failure of last shooting, we had to do a same shooting and make sure everything is focused. Also to stick to the schedule, we have to finish every scene related to the car crash, including the scenes after the accident. (The death of the male character) So, I need to make a lot of fake blood again.

I have become more familiar with the steps of making fake blood, however the blood is still not thick enough, after another two tries I decided just to use the thin one because I am running out of time.

Going from South Yarra to Clayton is a very long way, especially when we need to carry so many equipments with us. After the few shootings I experienced in this semester, the most exhausted thing to me will be borrowing all the stuff from RMIT and carry them with me throughout the shooting. After all, having 1 camera, 5 lenses and 2 tripods on your back is not very satisfying.

After the last shooting, we are more familiar with the lighting setup and all the cinematography skills, so we managed to finish the scenes in the garage quite quickly. And this time we also filmed a few shots in front of the car to make the car crash look more real. This also added some diversity into our shots.

Then, we drove to a quiet place near our actor’s house to film the scenes after the crash. This is where I jump in as the photographer. I like to focus on details, the blinkers on the taillight, the hand beside the car’s door with blood on it, and all the blood on the road all perfectly tells the audience that a car accident happened. I used some close-up shots on the details and also a tilt shot moving from the bleeding hand to the blood on the road. The change of focus is very crucial in this shot, I did it manually to make sure I focused on the place I wanted.

This shooting is very efficient and successful! We got all the shots we wanted and did it in quite a short time, being more familiar with everything really helped us to save time and shoot high quality shots. I also find myself more comfortable when I can use my creativity freely in a shooting. For example, when we were shooting in the garage, I was mainly following order from Samantha because she is the director but I couldn’t give out much helpful advice when I was just following orders. But when we were shooting the scene on the road, I could give out so many ideas easily because I was shooting things that I consider “My style”. I hope I can adjust myself to adapt new thing and styles in the future. I believe it will help me have a wider view when I am creating films and help me break the limitation of style.
