Like I mentioned in the previous post, from week 9 to 10 I will have to make a list of everyday objects and send it to my friends, let them choose five of the objects and take photos of the special things they noticed from those objects.

The list I made has 10 objects in it:

  1. A cup
  2. A computer
  3. A desk/table
  4. Anything made of fabric
  5. Anything made of metal
  6. A spoon fork or knife
  7. A scissor
  8. An umbrella
  9. A handle
  10. A light

I tried to make this list as “everyday” as possible, because every person’s everyday object can be different due to their personally hobby or job, for example my camera and lenses are everyday objects to me but for those who doesn’t do photography they definitely don’t use camera and lenses on a regular basis, so I just chose the things that people have to have in their lives. This can help me to make the project more approachable to my audience. I want everyone to feel the meaning of this project, to find the beauty of everyday life and objects. It is very important for my work to be communicable with everyone.

I am glad that the photos I received are quite detailed. I managed to notice some very interesting detailed from them and while I was looking through all of the photos I had many different ideas popping up in my head. Here are the photos I received:

These pictures and video provided me a lot of inspirations. For example the picture of two springs is actually a part of a lamp. I have taken a photo of my lamp in my task 3 experiment, but I only focused on the texture on it, instead of noticing the structure. Actually a lot of lamps have very interesting structures, and that can be used to make a great photo. The fifth last photo is an iPad stand made of metal, the shape of it created an interesting shadow and the texture is quite similar to the aluminum used on MacBooks. With the right lighting and composition this object can also make a good photo, so I decided to borrow it from my friend. The video is about a humidifier, my friend sent it to me because it has a light inside, and however what I noticed was how it blows smoke out. Then I decided to borrow that as well, because the texture of smoke is something I never shot before and it can definitely provide some abstraction into my project.

Overall I am extremely satisfied with those photos my friends sent me, they are very detailed and has decent quality. They provided me many inspirations for my final project that can definitely improve the quality of my photo series. I have already started to shoot photos based on the inspiration those photos provided me, and it is looking really good. I will get the iPad stand and the humidifier from my friends next week and take more photos of those objects.
