The video I made for this experiment is based on the textures we see in our daily life but we tend to ignore them because their beauty is not too easy to find. To me, seeing things through my camera is a way of changing perspective and also a way of finding beautiful things. I like to use my camera to turn something ordinary into something extraordinary. Which is exactly what I did for this video. I chose to keep develop this concept I started quite some time ago for this video because I am inspired by one of the readings we had and a discussion in class. In week 6’s reading Macdonald mentioned when the sync-sound recording technology first came out “Many Avant-garde film makers, however, explored non sync alternatives or resisted the new sound recording technology altogether.” I was very curious about why did those Avant-garde film makers chose to resist the new technology. I thought they just like to use the vintage things and produce their works in an old-fashion way. Because I’m also personally very into Avant-garde fashion, and many of the designers made there garments look very vintage(of course not all of them). I thought there might be some sort of connection between them. So I had a discussion with our tutor, and I learned that although they chose to use some old technologies it doesn’t mean they are intentionally making their works look vintage. They are just people who has their own purpose to chase and chose not to follow trends and the newest things. They chose to walk their own path instead of following others’. I really respect that and I think I should also keep develop my own work to make them more perfect. Keep looking for the texture and beauty of ordinary things.

I made a survey for the experiment so I can get some feedbacks from my friends even during the holiday, and I did actually found them very useful.

Two of the five students said that the change of focus could be slower, made the clear moment longer so the audience can see what’s happening in a clearer way. That would definitely be something I will change for my videos in the future. One student said the music could be changed, so I re-watched my video. I found that advice very pertinent, because the music sounds a little sad which could mislead the audience about meaning of the video.

I would consider this experiment as a successful one, it’s not perfect but it did help me in different ways. It is difficult to know where you need to improve until you actually made something and received feedbacks on it. I knew my videos have room for improvement but I couldn’t name the points. Now I know at least two parts of my video can be changed for a better presentation of the video.

Before I did this experiment I discussed with my tutor about the third experiment. She told me I can decide which one of the two question I raised at the end of task 2 is more interesting to me after I did an experiment on each of them. Now I have finished both experiment and I found “How to notice naturally?” more interesting and I would like to explore further into that experiment. Because after the first experiment I can notice more naturally then I used to, I want to try to notice things naturally without setting any alarms of notifications and see what kind of work I can produce out of that condition. And if I really want to I can actually combine video shooting into that exercise. So for next week I would like to do another experiment on it as a continuation of Experiment-1.
