This is the second time I set myself to notice something, but the way I have done it is completely new. This time I learned how to discover a new location and translate that into media pieces. It is an exciting process from finding things to collect to seeing them as media. After that I can look further into those media to see what I could have done better or what have I missed out so I can notice even more things next time. This feeling of growth is incredible and also useful for my future media projects. I learned about how to look at things in a more detailed way, how to find things people tend to ignore in daily life. Those details can be used as transitions of videos. For example leaves on the ground, broken bottles and so on. Those things people don’t really pay attention to but actually look great can be perfect transitions. I also learned about how to collect everything I need in a discipline way. For this exercise we came up with a list first and I looked for the things on the list in a very serious way. This can help me organize my project better. Write down a list, find what I need, collect them, organize them. This is a good way to keep things tidy.

Although I learned how to notice things and a lot of new knowledge from this exercise, there are still a few questions I want to explore further.

How can I notice things in a more natural way? I know I am still new to disciplinary noticing, and it takes time and effort to get used to it and turn it into an ideology like Maison said in the book. I still think I’m doing this too compelling. I would like to make noticing a more natural activity.

How can I clearly show what I noticed in a video? I have done photos, videos and audio for this exercise. I’m impressed with my photos and audio. However I don’t feel like my videos are well done. On the list we made it says 3 5-second videos showing what is in front of you. I don’t think those videos are containing enough information and I walked too fast when I was filming. In the future I would like to further explore how to do this kind of videos in a better way.
