We did an audio practice piece with a theme of attachment to your own media devices this week.
The theme seems really interesting to me. The time we are living in now, it is almost impossible to live without a media device. When something is such important to your daily life, an attachment can be easily formed. As a media student and also a big fan of photography, my camera, computer and phone are the three most used devices of mine. I hate to see my things getting used by someone else without my permission, especially my camera since it is so easy to break and hard to use if you don’t know a thing or two about photography.
This helped me set up the script of this practice piece. The story is I got angry because someone else is using my camera without my permission so I decided not to lend them any other media devices of mine, even when there is a emergency.(Kind of a dick move I know.) I’m trying to show the attachment between my media devices and me by showing how much I care for them, how angry I got because they were used by others without me knowing.
The part of me being angry worked really well. I showed the emotion I was trying to show and the attachment between me and my camera. I’m also impressed with the sound effect we did in the audio, for example the shutter sound, footsteps and the sound of a phone being dropped. They all sound very real. Especially the phone dropping one, we just put it on the ground with a slightly stronger force and it worked so well.
The part that did not work so well is the conversation. The conversations could be more natural because now it just sound like we are acting. Since the audio is about attachment we could show more emotion so the theme will be communicated stronger. This is also the part we need to improve for our final project.
It is not difficult to edit such a short audio, but it gave me a perfect chance to get familiar with Adobe Audition before I start editing my final assessment. The fact that I learned how to cut footages and tune the sound can really help me to speed up the editing process of project brief 4.
Overall this is not bad as a practice piece, the part I need to get better at will be a more natural conversation, and it will give the audience a better experience when they listen to my work, since sound is the crucial part of an audio piece.
