In the week 1 lecture class, we read an article about deep attention and her attention. It got me thinking when I finished reading the text, which one of them do we use more often?
Deep attention means focusing on one thing for a long period of time like reading a book or writing an essay without getting distracted by the surroundings. Hyper attention on the other hand, means switching focus vastly on different objects, basically multitasking. Personally I use hyper attention quite a lot in my life. Most of my work involves waiting time, which is the time for me to switch tasks and work on something else. For example when I’m editing my videos, moving clips to different folders requires some waiting time. I would switch to writing the video’s description or editing some photos but still paying attention to the progress of the clip moving. This doesn’t mean I don’t use deep attention in my work. After I organized my clips I will pay full attention to my editing until I finish.
I would’t say one of these two kinds of attention is better than the other one. Different situation requires different kinds of attention, just like I use hyper attention more in my everyday life, and others may use deep attention more.
