VLOG # 5 / THANKS HENRY ROTH

First things first, this week’s Vlog is particularly short and that’s because I didn’t do much worth filming. It basically involves 2 cafes, my lip-syncing sister and a lot of driving, as per usual.

On Sunday my sister Bronte and I decided we would drive into Richmond and have lunch at ‘Top Paddock’. To be honest the main reason I wanted to check it out was because I had seen pictures on Instagram of it looking equal parts delicious and picture perfect.

We arrived at around 2:10pm and were very surprised at the size of the place. We pictured a small cafe, not a huge restaurant filled with people and a line out the door. After putting our names on a list and waiting for about 5 minutes, the waiter showed us to our seats, at a communal table with about 10 other people. Bronte and I were sat side by side between two strangers.

The man sitting next to me looked entirely familiar and it wasn’t until he said “hello neighbour” that I realise it was Henry Roth. (If you don’t know who Henry Roth is then google him because you will recognise his face I’m sure of it). I didn’t think too much of it, except for ‘this is pretty cool, project runway was my jam‘. Minutes later he turned around and asked me if he should filter his instagram photo. I told him no, keep it filter free and that was the beginning of an hour long back and forth conversation, resulting in us following each other on instagram #awesome. Not only was Henry hilarious but he also was really interested in  getting to know Bronte and I, and although Bronte won’t admit it, she was very flattered when he told her she was a “cool year 8”.

He asked me what I was studying at uni and was quick to remind me that this course is something I should be excited about, and that working in the media industry really is the best. He also spoke about how at my age I should be constantly looking for work experience, as professionals his age (of course not Henry himself, as he so quickly told me!) are always needing people with an ingrained understanding of social media. By the time I had finished lunch, Henry had slipped me a business card and reiterated the fact that I need to make myself a Linkedin account asap (and then give him 20% of all my future earnings).

Not only did I gain an unexpected new Instagram bestie during that lunch but I also gained a new motivation to stop thinking of uni as a chore and instead start actually thinking about my future.

So thank you Henry Roth I definitley will create a Linkedin account (eventually).

You were so sweet and also a slave to the selfie, which is something I appreciate.
