Notes on The Romantic Comedy.

What opinions do I have about the genre that I can explore? What is my research question?

Nostalgia, Loneliness, Marriage as the end goal, Objective discussion Backing up the Media I create, Christmas emphasising the loneliness, gender roles (contrasting, protagonists 1 is often introverted the other extroverted).

Exegesis Script. Some ideas I want to explore in the exegesis that are conventions of the romantic comedy are:

Christmas Exasperating loneliness. Nothing is sadder than a lonely person at Christmas. A film/text that I can think of which uses Christmas to promote sympathy is A Christmas Carol, but within the conventions of Rom Com Sleepless in Seattle does This. I want my protagonist too use the year too measure his failure against, for me, this is the significance of Christmas in many Rom Coms.

There can only be one perfect person for me, no one can fall in love twice. The protagonist believes there is just one woman in the whole world for him. ‘Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope’ but I cant even go up there and talk to her. -maya angelou.

Nostalgia for a more innocent past, a past without hurt.

Loneliness seems to be the backbone. William is lonely in Notting Hill.

Sense of displacement occurs in comedy’s; sense of things being out of place, not quite right. Like the contrast between the the two leads in pretty woman or William in Notting Hill.
