ENTERING OTHER WORLDS

In this weeks lecorial we heard from audio producer and documentary filmmaker Kyla Brettle. She spoke of working freelance and stepping out of your comfort zone, with benefits and hardships that those entail. The three things I noted were:

• it will be chaotic – expect disorder but learn to thrive in it
• it will be terrifying – though it will be worth it
• it will be life changing

Kyla spoke of the idea of feeling foreign, being distant from your environment and the uncomfortableness you may experience. Here she said to explore your location, learn to observe the things around you. It is not enough to just research something – you must too experience it. Create a live relationship between you and your subject to create more ‘real’ feelings. Enter other worlds so that you can understand your own.
