As part of our final assessment we are tasked with penning a final research question. Nicolette has so far come up with the following: Defining the parameters of video portraits. Learning how to make them flexible in accordance with the artist while paying particular focus to composition and the effect that it has on perspective.
This is extremely thorough and I think applicable to both of our work, however I think I do need to tweak it slightly in accordance with my goals for this semester and to align itself more towards to my theme of filmmaking consciousness.
Defining the parameters of video portraits is the explicit task that we set out to explore. It is the practical side of the theories we have developed and the self reflection that has been a continuous task throughout this semester. Video portraits are the something tangible that we have set out to comment on; the extent to which we have been able to explore our aims this semester. This is an important part of my research question and it embodies the extent of exploration that has been conducted during this period of work.
The second part of the question to me represents the consciousness I am trying to create within myself. Flexibility has been a important condition that we have set for ourselves this semester. As all our work is made in accordance with future endeavours – with the consciousness that what we learn here will be applicable to a larger body of work in the future. As such our ability to adapt our skills and to apply them to different situations and compositions is paramount to what we should take away from this semester. If I have been able to successfully achieve that this semesters, than I think that my pursuit of consciousness will be reflective in not only me, but in my work as well. As such this semester my research has been based towards the following:
Defining the parameters of video portraits. Learning how to make them flexible in accordance with an artist, perspective and composition – thus conceiving a sense of filmmaking consciousness.
