Dad Shoot + Mum

This is the edited version of “dad’s shoot”.

In terms of colour grading I took one shot from each shoot (one of dad and one of mum) and copied those shots four times, with three different colour tests. Finally I settled on increasing the saturation of the shots and slightly cooling them. The shoot was done just under my house lights so the results obviously came out quite yellow, radiating quite an artificial look to the entire film. The cooling allowed me to slightly reducing the yellowishness of the sequence and perhaps creates something more organic – the camera being more of a raw eye than a high lit production.

There is a sense of loneliness that I think exudes itself from the footage and I that this contrast itself against the dialogue of the audio. The challenge for me in the post-production stage was therefore to create some kind of unison. I attempted to do this by means of disparity and discordance – creating patterns from lack of discernible rhythm. I think that this created a strange atmospheric togetherness of clips and audio and hopefully, in turn, of my two subjects.
