DUST

DUST

Dust has a negligible matter, but it has great power

Dust is the insignificant substance that constantly surrounds us. Right now, I am sitting on a chair that would contain particles of dust. My laptop keyboard is adorned with dust it has collected over its life in my bedroom and my backpack. If the sun were shining strong enough through these May clouds then perhaps I would see the dust dancing in the rays of light. There is a particular spot in my living room that seems to catch the afternoon performance of dancing dust each dawn. The sun sets a natural spotlight where there is a gathering of every speck of something that ever was. They recite a flow of movement and get lost within each other.

Dust is small. But it can be great. Those with allergies may be significantly affected by dust. Having to leave a room to avoid sneezing, being unable to sleep too close to the floor. If there was dust on your camera lens that remained unnoticed until the end of a long shoot, its impact could be very large. Dust dances in between our breaths; it adorns all substance around us. As it may remain unnoticed its impact could easily be dismissed. But we cannot dismiss it, as we would be unable to dismiss the tender hum of a mosquito in the dead of night.
