My direction for this semester has always pushed me towards collaboration as I have wanted to explore the consciousness of myself, of process and of others. Nicolette and I paired together after hearing each others work procedures in week 7.
It’s been difficult scheduling times to meet, as we have needed myself, Nicolette and a subject free for a solid few hours. However, this is something that we will always have to deal with, particularly when starting up with being reliant upon volunteer artists. This is part of the pre-production process, and limited periods make time a commodity that we must master and use to our advantage. For example in our last shoot with the guys from Pink Lemon, Ted had to rush off to class before we felt we had a solid stretch of material. This resulted in a quite rushed interview, and we were unable to bring it to a tight conclusion, which I think is reflected in final cut of the shoot.
Something I think we did well, was ensuring that the conversation and the cameras kept rolling. Whilst we were shooting I found that there were some things that I thought would be cut in post production, but once there, I realised that these were the clips that could really tie the piece together. Nic was good at directly the subjects (as she knows them quite well) and I think I was able to compliment her by doing the same with the cameras. We were able to take of different roles that suited each other in that environment and we would be able to reverse our capacity in different situations.
It’s definitely a process by which we continue to grow, and hopefully in our next shoot we will be able to work and adapt ourselves so as to compliment each other.
