In the first lecture of the semester Adrian spoke about the significance of the relationships between parts.
“The relationship between parts is most important than the parts themselves”
We spoke about this concept in relation to a film. The order of shots is more important than the content that each shot contains. It is this ordering of shots that creates meaning and tells the story.
Below are four images that I think represent this concept. Note the different meanings of the first image in each sequences. The content of the image has not changed (that is, the part itself has not changed), it is simply the relationship between the two images (the relationship between the two parts) that gives the first image a new meaning in each sequence.
Therefore, we can see that the relationship between parts is most important than the parts themselves.
