This week’s blog post will be a short one as we spent the week working on and delivering our pitches.
The pitches taught me that you can prepare for the presentation as much as you like – you can scrutinize the small details or gloss over the overall concept – however, on the day, there will always be some level of improv, especially when working as a group. I think this is the case because a pitch needs to be arguably more engaging than a straight presentation. You need to hold the attention of the panel to which you are pitching and you need to sell your idea. Therefore, you need to be ready to adapt your material to respond to the conditions on the day.
I enjoyed watching the other groups’ pitches in the tut – between us there are such a range of stories, genres, platforms and delivery methods being utilized. It’s interesting to see how different people interpreted the task and how ‘story’ can mean something slightly different to each person/group, ultimately resulting in a completely different final product.
