PB3 REFLECTION – WEEK 7

I’m happy with how our group has progressed since week 6, instead of our ideas being up in the air we buckled down and figured out a strong idea and plan of what we are going to do for our final fashion film. We are focussing on experimental fashion film that captures four women who have a unique style in fashion and take risks in the clothing they decide to wear. We are planning on doing fashion profiles for each model and filming individual shots in front of a green screen. As well as filming a group shot to show how their fashion individualises them but can also unite them. We are planning on filming in a location of the models choosing, by asking them where their favourite spot in Melbourne is. I think this is a really cool way to further capture each model’s personal style, not just by the clothes they wear but also the places they like to visit. What our group really wants portray in our film is female empowerment through fashion in a fun and spontaneious way.

I think the most important aspect I learnt from doing the pitch is to be open to any form of feedback, whether it is positive or negative, it’s all constructive. Even if it’s hard to hear, it gives you an opportunity to learn and grow and perhaps make an even better project then you intended. Before presenting our pitch I felt really nervous as I was expecting the worst, concerned that the feedback we would receive would be along the lines of “this is just not going to work.” Luckily this wasnt the case and the feedback we were given was overally very positive.

Nick gave a great suggestion that we should film the locations of the model’s choosing, without them actually being there and use that for footage to screen on the green screen, instead of screening the group shot. Or do both, film them in the location and also without them, just to see comparisons of how they act publicly compared to privately in a studio. Some of the feedback we received from Robin was that our idea was ambitious yet achievable. He made an interesting point on the differences between how we view the model and how they view themselves, that I think we can explore further in our final film. Another aspect that I think we should take into consideration was a suggestion from Christina, to perhaps use less models than four, because if your crew is over six people, you need to get permits for certain places to film. However I think that with less models, when it comes to filming the group shot, it won’t have as much of an impact if there are less people in it.

I am enthusiastic to start filming and piecing everything together. My main concern is that because I have not had much practice using green screen, that everything may not go to plan, but if challenges do arise we will just face them as they come. I still want to use the green screen idea even though I’m not overly confident in that area, as it provides and opportunity to learn new skills that will come in handy in future. I enjoy pushing and challenging myself, in order to become a better media practitioner. Our group is working really well together and we are always on the same page, which makes it easier when we are trying to organise everything.  Right now I think we really need to focus on figuring out the availability of our models and then booking studio time. I am happy with how our pitch went, beside all of the nerves, and am going to try take on board all of the feedback given.

This is the video which inspired us to use green screen;
