WEEK 5

This week we went through the history of fashion, watching short videos that styled a model into different eras which was extremely interesting to see how fashion has changed over time and to compare it to what clothes are in trend at the moment. Christina showed some of the things she worked on in fashion school from the 80’s, with fun prints and costume designs for band, it was really cool to get an insight into some of the work she has created, especially when she was a student like us.

The class then headed down to the design hub to listen to a talk/discussion with Simon Burton, who used to work in fashion film and some of his footage was being showcased in the High Risk Dressing/Critical Fashion Looks exhibition. I found this discussion thoroughly engaging as it was thought-provoking to hear a perspective from someone who has experience in the fashion film industry. Some important questions were raised that helped me further my learning and understanding of what makes a fashion film and that pretty much you can incorporate anything you want into your own work.

At the moment our group is wanting to work with fashion students. It has been hard trying to plan exactly what we want to do because we don’t know the design or work of the others students or what style of video they would to showcase their fashion. This has been a little bit stressful as we have no direction at the moment, and have no solid idea for our pitch for PB3, however we are going to do more brainstorming next week and hopefully have a better understating of where our project is heading.
