Here is my version of the abstract editing exercise, which I have aptly titled “Tower”.
Initially, it was difficult to find a common story element to the randomness of the images and the audio of that were recorded. Although I believed the quality of the clips were sufficient, it still proved challenging to implement a singularity to them especially in creating a narration as a documentary film would (even poetic sub-genre).
In the end, I decided to aim for an eerie horror (hopefully) theme that was served by using a reverse shot of an actor (me) climbing down the stairs. I hoped to implement the mystery of the piece through repetition and the juxtaposition of a jarring sound to a calm scenery.
It is definitely a lesson of importance in pre-planning what kind of shots and sounds are required before actual filming is performed.
