Blog #12: Fine Cut

Thursday was our last day of class and it is when our fine cut was showed to Rohan. Our group ended up staying until 10 PM to finish the edit and fine cut. This day we worked on the audio and color grading, which surprisingly took a very long time. We had tons of problems with the audio since the beginning and some we could not resolve but we were able to minimize.

Additionally, the color grading that affected the visual of the documentary turned out very smoothly and good. But the audio was the longest to finalize. We had to replace most of the audio and reconstruct the interview audio and atmos audio because it was the most worrying and disrupting. Although I wasn’t very familiar to edit an audio recording since I never used premiere pro before and this was my first studio for my program, I had to learn heaps from Jenny who was in her last year of uni. I helped with the graphics for the titles of our participant, Terri’s name on the documentary, as well as, some visual effects and color grading which Ceyda and I figured out how to do on Wednesday. I did my very best to collaborate and do as much as possible for the group this day because I know, it was a very rushed and last minute stressful day for the group to finish the fine cut, so we did complete as much as possible.

Our group decided that we definitely will come back sometime next week before the initial date for the project is due and perfect it even more. Even if it does not turn out how we wanted to, we definitely learned a lot of new skills such as the technical operation of camera skills, editing especially audio edit and definitely, teamworking and effort that matters most! We submitted our fine cut through Vimeo at the end of the day and will come back to it to submit it as a final cut on Monday.
