This semester’s studio: True To Form, is a course that hopefully is going to be worth experiencing. There are a lot of things that comes to mind when reading the studio booklet description for this studio for the first time. These ‘things’ include questions such as ‘what do you mean by true to form?’, ‘what makes it different?’ and more. Thus, I was eager to find out these answers throughout the course. And judging from the first class, I think that this studio is going to be an interesting ride.
Firstly, in terms of what I intend to obtain from being a part of this studio, I expect to develop technical skills further such as being able to operate camera including it’s audio, to edit footages and more. Furthermore, on the first day of class, Paul has explained that the studio was going to introduce us all to the methods of filmmaking in which is ‘true to form’ and content. This perception of filmmaking to me was an interesting notion that I have never heard before but am very excited and keen to learn more about. Therefore, throughout the semester I hope to be able to understand what ‘true to form’ really means in filmmaking and how it is different than other studios this semester.
My initial goal for this studio is also being able to reflect upon every single thing I do, whether a mistakeĀ or a new skill I learned that I never knew I could be able to do. When Paul mentioned that ‘writing’ is a huge part of the studio and that it was important to keep up with blogs for any relevant exercises, struggles or difficulties, etc. all throughout the studio, I was actually really happy hearing that. Although writing is definitely a skill I still need to work on further, I still think being able to reflect upon myself and the studio in every activity is a crucial part of a course, especially a studio like this. This is because I believe that without it I wouldn’t be able to look back and actually have a think about what I did wrong or right, good or bad, skills I should improve or should get rid of in the future and even things I should have done or should not have done, these kindsĀ of thoughts matters in order to consider any courses, in this case, studio, simply in the tiniest bit, a meaningful and valuable experience. Thus, I hope to do that this semester for the ‘True To Form’ studio.
