On Tuesday or the start of the week 6, have been quite difficult for my group and I as we just received heaps of very beneficial and useful feedback from Cindy. Here are the major changes we decided to do:
Firstly, Cindy suggested that we have to pace our story faster and to experiment with the story structure once more to see if it fits better, which we ended up concentrating on, along with her other feedbacks. We also made sure that we consulted our actions with the editing every step of the way with Rohan. It was a struggle to keep the story interesting whilst making it short and switching it around to see if it matches and fits. We took a very long time to figure out a right structure to the story of the documentary. As a result, we ended up cutting a lot and the documentary became approximately 3 minutes or less.
Additionally, we also worked on the audio. We tried cutting the disrupting ambient sounds in the background, tried covering it up with the music or making it sound like it was ‘meant to be there’ like an atmosphere sound and more. We worked on the music again. This time we cut two background music and replaced it with another one, which led to having two types of music instead of three like the rough cut used to have. Rohan also advised us to cut even more of the unnecessary and irrelevant sounds and voices the background made, along with, our participant’s irrelevant sayings such as her ‘mm’, ‘yea’, ‘so..’ that made her look awkward while she’s explaining details, those were removed as well.
On Tuesday class, we definitely completed, resolved and checked all the list that we have from the feedbacks that were given by Cindy and Rohan. On Thursday, for the fine cut we’ve decided to focus on the audio even further and perfect the visual with color-grading.
