This weeks second half of the lecture got me really considering the idea of a sound environment, especially the idea of a constructed environment.
Sound as a media text often gets overlooked, and without analysing, good recorded sound will seem almost natural to the listener.
In Jasmine’s half of the lectorial, she played an example of a sound file which is a multilayered construction, which all in all created a particular environment when heard.
I wanted to relate this idea of a soundscape, to a song which I have always found extremely fascinating however I was never 100% certain as to why.
Soundscape is a representation of a place or an environment that can be heard rather than what can be seen.
Within Tyler The Creators song Pigs from his 2013 album Wolf, the fading in of sirens and street ambience sounds builds an intertextual scenery from behind his lyrics, which in turn creates an environment to which his song is occurring within.
