Media Project 3

 Watch in 1080p

My self portrait film was based on my good friend Stephanie Nardella. The feel I wanted for this video was more of an insight into little quirks of personality and utilise shots of her environment to transport audiences into her own personal world.

I believe the most successful aspects of my work is that the found footage and original footage by myself flows very seamlessly and it’s difficult to differentiate which is found and which is original, which I like. All of the footage is in HD as well which doesn’t spoil the overall aesthetic of the film.

In editing, I decided to finally utilise Final Cut Pro X to edit my footage, rather than Sony Vegas Pro, which is the program I have previously used. It didn’t take too long to get used to the different editing software and I was able to  experiment with the colour board as well as layering and adjusting the speed of clips as well as changing the transformation and crop of footage.

Problems I encountered whilst editing was attempting to layer differences sounds. I used a song throughout the piece and wanted to then layer some voice overs underneath, but I ultimately cut this out as I believed it ruined the overall flow of the film. I really like my choice of music and I feel like my self portrait of my friend flows almost like a music video.

In using both found footage and original footage to portray a person I found I was able to give the video a nostalgic feel as the shots are aspects of her environments and insights to the little pleasure in her life. I was able to learn more about utilising editing to  interlink sometimes opposite clips to convey meaning; for example the footage of 3 pictures frames I used of my subject with her brother growing up followed by found footage of a bubble evoke emotions of childhood.
