Abstract edit reflection

The abstract edit used both the abstract audio collected by myself and Mia as well as the abstract footage collected by Helena and myself. The abstract sound that we found mainly composed of general ambience in the streets, hallways and building of RMIT which comprised of mainly footsteps, talking and the sounds of mother nature. I’ve never been one that is much into audio as I find it more appealing  to accompany clips with music rather than sounds. The abstract footage that we shot were made up of clips from the university’s club signs up event, where we focused on experimenting with white balance, panning/tracking and overall composition. I was quite pleased with the footage myself and Helena were able to get as they many people made the shots ‘come alive’.

In editing the abstract footage/audio I found that straight away I wanted to combine the tree shot with the audio of the waterfall, as they complimented each other so well. For the rest of the clips I chose to pair audio that felt similar to their initial environments. I found it a bit difficult to keep the flow and continuity of shots and audio as they didn’t really flow nicely as a story, but a bit of the old fade in and fade out as well as overlaying audio and footage blended them all together nicely. I also chose to add a bit of music to one of the shots because there was a dj so it made sense to the shot.  I like all the shots individually as they were nicely framed and such  however when all the shots were put together as a short video I felt that they fell short of being ‘something’ and felt quite boring.
