In this lectorial we had two guest speakers, Adrian Miles and Liam Ward. Adrian Miles discussed ways of approaching the study of media and the process of thinking not being full completed until an action is taken. He also talked about what skills he thought we be most important being a media practioner. He made points that the latest technology ultimately isn’t going to help your create films, but ideas and input. I think it was quite true that everyone ultimately has the technical equipment to be a creator of content however you need more than technical equipment to make a great piece of art.

Liam Ward was the second speaker and talking about editing and the way that the order of shots can be used to convey meaning. It discussed the Kuleshov effect, and Sergei Eisenstein‘s ‘montage of attractions’. A good example of how editing to convey meaning can be seen in Hitchcock’s 1961 film Birds.
