“You will not make much money from this degree”
WHY NOT TELL US THIS IN WEEK ONE ARRGGHHHH
I kid, though. I kid. The way I see work, if it’s not fun, it’s not worth doing. I have worked jobs with great pay but work that isn’t enjoyable; and I have worked enjoyable jobs with meager wage. I much prefer enjoying myself and making money that way – I think if you go off to work each day at least content with work then it doesn’t really matter how much you’re paid. You’re not gonna last in a job you hate.
Our two exercises this week were to graph out our growth over the course of the semester, and to review our ten goals. Never being the artsy type, I decided to cast my mind back 12 weeks to the list of goals, and evaluate whether I achieved them or not.
- Create a portfolio of radio/television content I have presented/produced for prospective employers.
I DEFINITELY reached my goal for television content, co-hosting the RMITV series “Offbeat” this semester. It was an incredibly fun learning experience, but next semester I aim to make the jump to radio and evaluate exactly which of the two I see myself better suited to. - Student exchange to Canada.
It’s too early to evaluate this goal, but by keeping my marks up I have definitely started on the right foot in terms of moving towards achieving this goal. I would like to think YES WE CAN(ADA) - Maintain at least a ‘distinction’ average (70%) for marks.
Doneski. I had a little bit of an ‘uh oh’ moment with my PB1 mark but everything else has been 70 or up, which is definitely the start I wanted to my degree. Not quite as good as my marks in my last degree, but hey, this is more about creativity than essays and adhering to ideas. Art is subjective. - Enjoy myself.
Yeah, sorta? Away from uni I have had a few things happen to challenge this but I’ve had more good days than bad. - Create lifelong connections with other members of the media industry.
Well, I mean I’m making friends..? - Develop stronger collaboration skills and the ability to sit back and not ‘take the reigns’ too often.
Hoo boy, nearly came close to failing this one by going too gung ho on PB4; but I acknowledged that I needed help and I asked the girls to give me some assistance with the editing and they have done an incredible job and left me wondering why I didn’t notice their modesty in their editing skills. - Be able to keep up with the readings.
Okay, this one was never really going to happen
The way I see it, 5 out of 7 isn’t bad. But the goal is to keep these up; to not drop off; and to continue off the strong foundation I have built for myself this semester.
