My reflections on the topic of audiences led me to look back on a YouTube series known as “React”; where a group of society (Elders, Teens, Kids) react to certain videos, music, lyrics and such; and have these reactions filmed for camera.
While these are usually good for a bit of humorous entertainment, I found it actually really interesting to watch the video of “Elders” playing GTA V. The group were told the basic controls of the game, and were left to play for half an hour each.
This was interesting to me because the target audience of GTA V is likely the teenager/young adult demographic; so to watch these subjects react to something that they only really knew about through media coverage and/or scrutiny was quite fascinating. You can see it takes them a little bit of time to start learning the controls (and they don’t really master the game as they don’t really run through any sort of tutorial); but there’s something magic about watching these initial reactions.
Also, it seems really meta to be the audience of an audience (FineBros) of an audience (the elders playing the video games).
Next level!
