editing process

My weekend in Geelong continues! I took some time away from the laptop and assignments tonight to head out to a friend’s 21st birthday party. I got to catch up with a high school mate who is currently completing his third year of BComms (Media) at RMIT, so it was interesting to compare his workload and assignments with my own.

Resisting temptation, I stuck to waters for the night; before heading home to get cracking on editing down the interview from today. So far, I have cut 25 minutes down to just six, and must find ways to shorten more of the footage.

The four sequences I have right now are
1 – Christine recalling the first time a patient in her care passed away.
2 – Christine explaining what drew her to nursing.
3 – Christine recalling the experience of resuscitating her father after he suffered an aneurysm; and the aftermath of this
4 – Christine detailing her life post-retirement

I now need to work out, from here, how to compress this interview. I am reluctant to remove parts 2 or 4, as I don’t want the narrative to focus too much on hardship; but parts 1 and 3 are very raw, emotive sequences. This will likely require some thought and various drafted final cuts – so I am glad to have allowed myself four more days to work out exactly what the final cut will be.

Now for some miscellaneous shots tomorrow, and then onto soundtracking and footage finding!
