Finally, I have begun the filming for Project Brief 3! Today was focused mostly on the interview, with a few shots of Christine (my subject) moving about her home.

The setting for our interview

I think the interview went fairly well, I have a fair bit of content to work with that can be used to sculpt a portrait of Chris based on her life and her time as a nurse. At times during the interview Chris became emotional – particularly when talking about her father, with whom she was very close. While she has told me it is fine for me to use this footage in the interview as it is very “raw”; I still want to be sure she is fine with my final cut before I submit it, because some of the things she talks about are very sad, scary and clearly emotive subjects for her.

I would love to use this footage, with her permission – simply because it shows how deeply she cares for those around her, and how much this says of Chris’ character.

One difficulty I came across with today’s shooting was the lighting in the room. As it was quite a tumultuous day in Geelong weather-wise; the natural lighting was hard to control, so we had to set blinds at various levels in the room in order to capture steady light. However, I think I did this okay; and if I break up clips that are some time apart using other footage or found footage, then I should be able to “smooth” any rough jumps.

Back at it tomorrow with more “action shots” — and then into the editing suite!
