This semester, I am taking the introductory course for the Popular Culture stream – COMM2633 (Pop Culture in Everyday Life).

As part of the assessment for this course, we are required to create video blogs (aka “vlogs”) related to our topics, and integrate popular culture into these vlogs. At first glance, these seems like a tricky task – a lot of vlogs on Youtube seem to be, on the surface, people who aren’t afraid to put their lives out on the web turning mundanity into entertainment for all to see. Such examples of this are popular vloggers such as Shay Carl Butler (Shaytards); Jesse Wellens and Jeana Smith (BFvGF); and George Miller (TVFilthyFrank).

But how does this translate to something more educational? Perhaps humorous approaches is the way to go. This is explored by Jordan Shanks-Markovina (FriendlyJordies) in many of his videos – which are comedic commentaries on topics such as Australian politics, brands and media.

I think this is the best way to approach this assignment — have good content in there; but keep it fairly entertaining for the viewer.
