Wow, are we meant to have our interviewees ready? Mine lives an hour away and is about to head in for surgery #PrayForGallBladder

This weeks workshop was – once again – a little bit of sitting in class; a little bit of field work. We began with a rough play around in Adobe Audition, something that made me regret the fact that my home internet has been struggling because it looks like I could’ve used a little bit of a run through. Nonetheless, the program doesn’t look too dissimilar to what I have worked with in past, so hopefully I can run with it once I get it installed.

The second part of our assessment was to film a brief “uni survival guide” for practice shooting interviews. For me the process was somewhat dull, I guess. I understand the importance of practicing framing for interviews and asking questions – but with previous experience shooting on-camera interviews for video-journalism assignments in my previous degree, I kind of felt like I already had a pretty good idea on how to get about filming it all. Unfortunately given time constraints and some lapse in concentration on my behalf (lunchtime classes were a terrible choice for a guy like me) I kinda missed half the shots we were meant to be getting so… that happened? At least we got there in the end, but I think I may have to do some post-production work to put together the trial interview in a way that works for me.

Now I’ve just gotta get around to booking that camera in for a time that works for my interviewee… yikes.

By the way — fun fact. We’re, what, just under halfway through the semester? At this point I’m feeling like I’m going to be crawling across that finish line.
