With all the discussion about blogs this week, I find it fitting to reflect on a blog I routinely browse – The Steve Dangle Blog; hosted by Toronto-based sports-media company SPORTSNET.

I am an absolute sucker for North American sports – particularly ice hockey; hence my interest in the Steve Dangle Blog. Dangle utilizes the text-based nature of a blog to write articles with content and interviews with people worth publishing in national print media – but holds true to the blog-style of writing discussed by Allan in this weeks reading.

This allows Dangle to approach his content with a more humourous air, and embed popular culture references in his works – such as the Simpsons.

This style of blogging has been carried out by Dangle for many years – in fact, he got his “big break” making short comedy videos after every Toronto Maple Leafs hockey game.

I think this is a pretty interesting story – a guy who started out small-time blogging in his bedroom is now being paid by a major media network to write daily columns.

This is just one example of how blogs, as well as other online publications, are becoming more and more integrated into professional media.
