Thoughts on PB3

I decided to review Louis C.K.’s unreleased feature film Tomorrow Night.

While writing this analysis I found myself facing a number of dilemmas.

Something that I have really learnt and taken from this subject is that critical analysis is more then just an essay where the writer contents an opinion and provides evidence but more of a creative piece of writing. Despite knowing this and constantly reading reviews that have a ‘narrative’ as well as providing a strong review of the subject matter I feel like I still struggle to find the balance between entertaining and informative, something I feel can make or break an essay.

I constantly found myself either being too informal in my essay on TN or too boring. Due to this I have decided to write completely new pieces for my portfolio hopefully all my writing post my TN review will find a good blend of emotion, information and depth.

The second dilemma I found was that I was paranoid about stating an opinion or theory that I had read in a TN review. Despite me taking comprehensive notes on the film and doing a lot of research I did find a few little things in other reviews I read that I wanted to use, but halted due to me feeling like I was stealing the writers idea. Although I agreed and understood most of the new ideas I read in other reviews I decided to leave them out of my own essay, probably due me fearing my own moral retribution. I think there is a grey area around that sort of idea sharing that I want to explore and understand.
