Today I watched a compilation of iconic music videos and stumbled upon one of my all-time favourites; Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson. This video is amazing, from the dancing to the overall vibe. It really sticks our memory, and probably will for generations to come. I find that; although this music video is much more intense and fast-paced than ours, we have similar tropes in regards to nostalgia and crime.
One of the scenes which bear the most striking resemblance to our work is actually the opening scene! where Michael’s is pictured in front of a blue shadowed fence; creating a sense of mystery and the unknown. This scene sets the tone for the remainder of the video, as well as ensuring a sense of wonder within the audience of who this character is, what their story is, and whether they are bad or good.
