SOMEBODY ELSE

SOMEBODY ELSE

Friday was the day we completed our class presentations for pb2. In which I chose to analyse one of my all-time favourite videos: Somebody Else by The 1975.

Sadly I was not able to attend the class; though I am sure I will be able to make my presentation soon.

Somebody Else tells the story of a man going through a breakup and the jealousy/ envy that comes with that. The video takes many twists and turns, though keeps its overarching aesthetic quite prevalent during the entire duration. I find this video to be extremely iconic due to its opening and closing scenes. The duality of worlds which the director creates is quite jarring and sharing this with the class is very exciting as I don’t think the video is all that popular in mainstream media.

I mostly find myself attracted tot he 3min long intro which can be synced up one of the other songs featured on The 1975’s second album ‘I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful, Yet So Unaware Of It.” The band is aware of themselves, their identity and what makes people love them; they make subtle references to their other videos as well as their other eras, within Somebody Else also.

All in all, I really hope that I am able to incorporate some part of this music video into my own work.
