MY AIM FOR THIS STUDIO / FIRST DAY

Upon entering this studio I wasn’t 100% aware of what was in store for me. I knew I had to create a music video; something I wasn’t really ever that interested in, but I wasn’t sure which musicians I’d be working alongside to create the piece of video material, or how much creative integrity I had in regards to it. After taking a course in Wed Series where I was not allowed to write any part of either of the episodes, I was left scarred and quite distraught that my creative side would be put to waste in this course; ultimately having to be put aside to become some kind of filming and editing monkey (not to be dramatic of course). Though it seems to not be the case, as far as I can tell. Finding an artist shouldn’t be too hard, and I feel as though there should be a level of trust between the creator and musician in order to direct a quality piece of film.

I was far more interested in the notion of music videos than, I found myself before partaking in this studio. The notion of learning about the politics, ethics and history surrounding music videos in pop culture is kind of exciting. My main aim for this course is to be more active in my role of the editor; developing my editing skills is highly important as it is something I wish to pursue in the future. Though, as I am already extremely confident in editing, I would also like to take on some roles which would require me behind the camera.

Usually, in team efforts and collaborative projects, I get lost in the number of voices; I find myself to be quite shy, and I find it easier to just take on others ideas rather than my own. It is also my goal throughout the following weeks to contribute any input I may have, and be a part of the creative design of the video as well!
