2016: A Media Odyssey
It is the 4th of March 2016 (I just googled the date, is that a sign my life is falling apart?) and today I went out for lunch. Intense stuff, I know. It’s 37 degrees celsius currently which is…honestly really unfair and I’m hating every second of it. Aside from discussing the revolting sweaty cesspool which is Melbourne, I thought I’d share a bit about my life and origin as this is my first blog post, and I’m sure no one wants to hear about my lunch; I had bruschetta, just in case any of you were wondering. Anyway…
So, Hi! My name’s Amber, I’m a Media student from Melbourne or more specifically Montmorency, the greenest suburb with the most of cafes and parks (Don’t fight me on this, I know my Monty facts). As I am mixed race, the first question people usually ask me is: “So what’s your nationality?” Which is an insanely hard question, though over the years I’ve gotten used to it. What I usually say in response is: “Well, My dad is Anglo-Indian/Portuguese, and my mum is…white” which seems to satisfy what they want to hear, mostly because they have no idea what Anglo-Indian is and I guess I could pass as Portuguese probably. Aside from that, I have two dogs and one cat which are all the loves of my life, and my passions include: Drawing, writing, film, food, and probably some other things but it’s too hot to think at the moment.
Thursday was the day of my first Media 1 seminar and boy do I have absolutely no idea what I’m supposed to be doing for this upcoming assignment, the brief was honestly the most obscure thing I’ve ever read and I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t gone over it more than 40 times. Don’t get me wrong, I have a few ideas of what I could do, though it’s the whole question of whether it’s right/wrong, which is concerning me. I guess I’ll figure it out, hopefully…
