Assignment Two | Week 10 Reflection

Run, Scramble, Panic, Relax.

This seemed to be the mantra of the day today- the second biggest day for us this semester (the first being this film festival looming over us ominously, none of us quite comprehending what it will turn out to be… I digress). On the night of the fundraiser, surprisingly, everything seemed to go off without a hitch. Rohan Spong did make us all a touch nervy when he instructed us to set up and test the screen post-hast but overall, the space we created for the screening ended up looking really fabulous in my opinion. We sprinkled fairy lights throughout and set up a confectionary stall (go Matilda and Megan) and while the shirts I hastily DIY’d for the night didn’t dry in time, they did convince everyone that we could make some pretty neat looking tote bags.

While the night itself went well, the actual ‘fundraiser’ part wasn’t exactly the best as, I believe, we only ended up raising $50 profit in total- better than losing money! The films themselves… well, ‘Ben and Arther’  was actually so bad it was kind of good (in its ridiculously nonsensical nature), whereas ‘Santa Claus Conquers the Martians’…  not so much. I think we had all pretty much had enough of the approximately 9 hour day we’d already been through and watching that very slow film when we all wanted to be in bed didn’t exactly help the cause.

We did have a meeting with Rohan Spong and Erin Rosenberg earlier in the day to discuss our overall ideas for our film festival. I really thought that this meeting was extremely constructive and gave us an insight into things we hadn’t thought about previously. I did agree with Erin with points such as our Instagram being very bland overall and their push to get the class to really get promoting the festival was encouraging. Although that being said, it still feels as though a large number of people are dragging their feet in many aspects, refusing to help further the festival with simple tasks like inviting their friends to like the page. Anyway, we’ll see how it all pans out in a few more weeks I guess!
