Murphy’s Law– a supposed law of nature, expressed in various humorous popular sayings, to the effect that anything that can go wrong will go wrong. Humorous, it was not.
We always knew that when conducting a Skype call for our interviews that there was the possibility that they could go horribly, horribly wrong. For two of them and even partially the third, this was the case. Our footage of Carlie is practically nonexistent due to camera failings, and the audio quality of Mary, when compared to Claire’s, makes the piece feel disjointed and really highlights its own failings. Personally, at this point, I think we may eventually just focus on Claire’s interview without the need for the other two, partly due to the quality difference and partly due to the fact that intertwining the two storied may prove to be a difficult and clumsy task. While Claire’s interview went well, it wasn’t without its own problems- our mic dying halfway through, SD card filling up and last 15 minutes (her final, closing words) losing quality due to a failing internet connection. Overall, due to the screen recording of the computer, I would call the filming of the interview a success- if not also a lesson in filming.
