The presentation that we had to give was perhaps an example of the disorganisation we’ve been experiencing throughout the first half of semester. There are just too many people in our group, so we found it difficult to decide who was going to talk about what and who wasn’t going to talk at all.
We met up earlier in the day of the presentation, after getting barely any preparation done on Tuesday, we had to finish the editing off for our pilot and bring all of our information together. We devised a shooting schedule and discovered the mess that is our pilot episode. I felt pretty frustrated hearing some of the members of our group criticise the episode as they were either absent from filming or adding to the chaotic nature of the shoot on set, where I felt like everyone was struggling to stick to their own roles. But because we had the conversation during Tuesdays class that we were going to have set roles for the entire series I feel like perhaps we’ll avoid having that issue again. We decided to divide the presentation up into having the writers talk and then the media students, with three people going over the main talking points and the remainder answering any questions the teachers may have afterward. We were given feedback that our presentation was a bit too casual and conversational in nature as some people would just randomly start talking. While I understand that feedback, we’re also a large group of people and there were points that the main presenters hadn’t gone over such as the need to find a good location far in advance and that being a large source of the problems in the pilot, that I felt needed to be communicated. I do agree that there was too much negativity communicated to the audience and I felt like it was a little bit over the top and not how I felt at all about the pilot. All in all, it was a good experience as it allowed us to learn from our mistakes and learn from them, in fact we learnt more from the mistakes we made than we would’ve if it turned out brilliantly and I think the feedback from the teachers was indicative of that as well.
