Something quite exciting happened recently, the place where I was working decided to hire me as a video producer (I don’t know my exact title, just that I’ll be producing video content). Thus far I have only made vox pop content, but I’m really keen to see where this could go. I shot this when I was still interning with the help of the journalism intern. The original piece was in the widescreen format, but had to be changed to suit the Facebook square format, I found this particularly relevant for our studio as format and framing for the intended website we post on will need to be considered. It’s something I often forget to think of, but going forward it will have to be something I consider on a deeper level to succeed at my job.
The original piece I put together was about 1.5 mins long and was really well framed and lit, but because I framed it in a way that would subscribe to the rule of thirds, half the interviews had to be cut as they didn’t suit the square format. This is quite disappointing as they contained really good content, but to have ABC share it and to have 43k views on a project I proactively asked my boss if I can do, makes up for that disappointment.
