Workshop week 11

I was not well so I had to email Brian saying that I couldn’t make the workshop for today.

Luckily Margaret, who’s always on the ball and ready to go was there and able to get some feedback for our Audio essay.

– move underpants interview to the front

– exemplary textual snippet

– more interactive with each other / more playful tone / mix up our voices

– fade in between scene dialogue and self talking (cool texture thing), using dialogue as background music (but not intruding)

This is interesting feedback as their were loads of reasons behind our audio essay Roughcut not being how we planned it would be, most of them come down to technical difficulties and also that I got really nervous recording my part for some reason in front of other people. I’m just terrible at reading really intricate sentences out-loud, under pressure because I have an issue with getting tongue tied…it’s always been this way and for this reason I had to re-record my section at home using my Rode Video Mic Pro. Because of our files for some reason not working Cameo had to record her section on her phone as well so all of the audio quality was fairly different, even if I tried to clean it up in Audition, it’s still noticeable.

I think the advice to interact with each other and be more playful kind of goes against the more serious tone of our subject matter and because of all the issues we had I don’t really feel the need to re-record our audio. I think there are definitely things we could add, like sound effects or edit some of the audio texture but expecting us to change the entire tone to be more ‘playful’ is a bit much, considering what we are trying to achieve. We definitely need to be cutting down our audio essay from 9 minutes to 5, so adding more audio is probably not the best idea either.
